Important Note From Mr. Dunn: Moving On

(from Mr. Dunn):

Dear Coleman Band Parents,

It has been an amazing three years as band director at Coleman. The growth and talent of the band has been more than I could ever imagine. The culture of music at Coleman has fostered an environment for developing a lifelong love of music which is the main goal for every music educator.

It is with bittersweet feelings that I am leaving Coleman for Bell, Florida. My wife has finished her family medicine residency in Clearwater and has been offered a job in her home town clinic. We have been given a free house on ten acres and her work is going to pay for all of her medical school loans. We are also moving to be closer to family which will help us take care of our new daughter Abigail Grace Dunn. Abigail was born on May 29, 2010 at 2:51am and is already as sweet as her mother.

As far as a new band director, Mr. Hoskinson will begin interviewing teachers in late June and should hire a replacement by early July. There are already several great teachers interested and I am sure there will be even more when it is officially announced. Coleman is one of the best schools to work at within the entire state and you are going to get a great teacher to take what I have built to the next level.

Lastly, I want to thank you for all of the help with developing the great band program at Coleman and more importantly thank you for caring and working so hard for your kids. You have been a great influence on my concept of family and how parents should encourage their children’s education. Thank you all for the kind words and gifts you have shared with me over the past couple of years. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity. It has really been encouraging to me. I wish you all the best in your future and your children’s future successes in life.

I hope to see everyone at the spring picnic on Saturday!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Christopher Dunn

Below are details on the Solo & Ensemble MPA, from Mr. Dunn. We will try to post the schedule here soon.

Solo and Ensemble Information

What: Solo and Ensemble MPA (Music Performance Assessment) this is an Opportunity for your student to participate on a smaller scale for ratings. Your student will get judged on their solo or ensemble and receive a grade based on how well they perform.

When: February 19-20 at your assigned time on Friday night or sometime Saturday morning. The event should take about an hour or less within the time you are assigned. (Waiting for times to post soon)

Where: Alonso High School 8302 Montague Street, Tampa, FL 33635-6014 (About 15 mins from Coleman if you take the Waters Ave. exit on the Veterans)

Who: Any 7th or 8th grade students who filled out the entry form have been registered. The cost is 3 dollars per entry and between 10 to 20 dollars more for a piano player if they are doing a solo. All checks should be written to the Coleman Band Boosters and money should be turned in to Mr. Dunn.

Attire: Something Nice-Like you are going to a fancy dinner or event-No Jeans or Sneakers

What to Do: Your students will need to be at Alonso High School one hour before their performance time. You then need to find their judges room to see if the room is running on time or behind. Your student should then warm-up in the Cafeteria( which is on the north side of the school). You can leave your cases and non important stuff in the cafeteria. About ten minutes before your performance time you should report to your judge’s room. Your student will then perform their piece and do an amazing job. You then will go back to the warm-up room, pack up and wait for your results to post outside of the concession stand. When you get your results can go home and stop for ice cream.
